Why We Do What We Do!

A commitment to better driver training

Yellow Umbrella’s owner and principal instructor, Kevin Cronin, began this work after seeing the devastating impact a young person’s fatal crash had on a family. It made him ask what more could be done to help new drivers develop the skills and judgement they need.

Kevin became a driving instructor in 2012, bringing years of teaching and training experience, including experience as an instructor during his military career. He believes good instruction should be clear, structured and practical, and that students need to understand the reasons behind the skills they are learning.

Good teaching meets students where they are

Good instruction is structured, purposeful and responsive. Students may need a skill explained another way, more repetition or additional time behind the wheel. Our instructors adapt their teaching to help students progress while keeping safe habits, sound judgement and real-world readiness at the centre of every lesson.

Working together with parents and mentors

Parents should know what their child is learning, how they are progressing and what still needs work. We communicate directly with families, welcome questions and provide guidance on useful practice between lessons. Professional instruction and safe, consistent practice work together to help a new driver build experience and confidence.

Preparing for Ontario driving

Ontario drivers need to be ready for changing weather, including rain, snow and ice. We want students to understand how conditions affect driving and how to respond thoughtfully—not simply feel afraid of them.

Our promise is to provide knowledgeable instruction, structured and purposeful lessons, honest feedback and direct communication with families. We teach beyond the test route so students can become safer, more capable drivers in everyday conditions.
