Every student deserves knowledgeable, engaged instruction and a clear structured training plan. We have developed our own unique approach to skills training to create a simple, repeatable method.

We hire instructors—not just anyone with an instructor licence—and put them through a continuous training program to ensure the highest quality of training. You are invited to meet your child’s instructor before training starts. Our instructors are trained to maximize structured learning in every lesson. There is no wasted time. Yellow Umbrella expects our instructors to teach fully for the 90 minutes of a lesson, and their performance is evaluated weekly through training video review. We focus on constant improvement in the quality of training, which is evident in our success rate and the reviews from our customers.

Included in the Yellow Umbrella training are modules on teaching students with different learning needs. We have training and experience supporting students with ADHD, anxiety and autism. All our instructors have been trained and certified with Autism Ontario to work with neurodivergent teens.

The G2 test is not a particularly high bar to clear. It is a city-driving test that assesses a limited set of skills in 15 minutes. In our opinion, the ability to get a G2 license and being prepared to drive independently are two very different things.

At Yellow Umbrella, our goal is to get students comfortable and prepared for their G2 as efficiently as possible, so we can use their remaining training time to build broader driving experience. We tailor lessons to each student's ability and progress, making sure we're not wasting valuable lesson time practising skills they've already mastered.

Did you know? In Ontario, once a driver passes their G2 road test, they can legally drive on highways, including the QEW, 403 and 407, without having received any previous highway driving instruction. That's a big responsibility for a new driver.

That's why we believe driver training should go beyond the test. We want students to experience a variety of roads and driving conditions, develop hazard awareness, learn to anticipate risks and build the judgement needed to drive safely on their own.

We make the most of the training hours available by focusing on what each student actually needs to learn next—not simply repeating a test route or ticking boxes.

Driving Schools Focus on passing the G2 test but driving is about much more than remembering a route or completing a maneuver. Yellow Umbrella’s curriculum is designed to give as broad a training as time allows, this is the one time that they get trained on what becomes the most dangerous thing we do every day

We believe parents need to be involved. 10 hours in a car is not enough time to experience and gain confidence, consider sport training: we teach the skill, then comes practice. You should expect to know what you are getting for your money. You should know who the instructor is, whether they are a good fit for your child, and whether they fully understand what they are being taught. Do you know what they are being taught? You should be. This is the knowledge they will carry forward for the rest of their lives. It is your car they will probably be driving—are you concerned?
